EDINBORO, Pa. (Feb. 26) – Senior
Jalen Cloud (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski) broke a decade-old school record in the long jump on Saturday, as the Vulcans opened competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
Cloud finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.92 meters (22-8.5 feet) on his fifth attempt. He eclipsed the previous record of 6.82 meters (22-4.5 feet) set by Alex Eaton in the 2011 season. Cloud, who also holds the indoor school mark in the triple jump, earned All-PSAC laurels for the second time in his career on Saturday.
Junior
Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) qualified for the finals in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the league championships. He placed third in the preliminaries of the 60 meters after matching his season-best time of 7.01 seconds. Lytle also posted a season-best time in the 200 meters after crossing the finish line in 22.47 seconds to finish sixth overall.
Senior
Avery Boea-Gisler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) placed eighth in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.62 seconds. Last spring, he earned All-PSAC honors in the event at the outdoor championships after finishing third overall.
The California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team sits eighth in the standings after the opening day with six points. Shippensburg leads the conference championships with 83 points, while Slippery Rock ranks seconds with 31 points and East Stroudsburg sits third with 20 points.
Additionally, sophomore
Colin Finkbiner (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) set a personal best at the league meet in the pole vault after clearing 4.10 meters (13-5.25 feet).
The Vulcans return to action at the PSAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 27, with events starting at 11:30 a.m.
