Beitko repeats as recipient of weekly award

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 27) - For the second-straight week, California University of Pennsylvania freshman kicker Anthony Beitko (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Special Teams Athlete of the Week on Monday morning.

Beitko scored 10 points on three field goals and one PAT attempt on Saturday, as the Vulcans opened divisional play with a 20-12 victory at Edinboro. He converted a 25-yard attempt early in the second quarter before making a pair of field goals in a span of 48 seconds late in the first half to give Cal U an 11-0 lead at the break. Beitko was successful on one of the longest  field goals in school history, as his 48-yard attempt with 1:19 left in the second quarter is tied for the third longest kick in program history.

A product of McKeesport, Beitko leads all NCAA Division II kickers this season with 43 points and paces the country with 2.50 field goals made per game. He converted his initial 10 field-goal attempts this season before a kick was blocked in the fourth quarter on Saturday. Beitko has made a trio of field goals three times this season and has been successful on all five kicks beyond 30 yards.

Beitko is the first Cal U football player to earn weekly honors from the league in back-to-back weeks since Lamont McPhatter II received defensive laurels consecutive times in 2018.

The Vulcans return to Adamson Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 2, when they host Mercyhurst on Homecoming with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
