SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Oct. 9) – In their final event before the league championships, the Vulcans placed third in the team standings on Saturday afternoon at the Bill Lennox Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
The California University of Pennsylvania women's cross country team totaled 68 points at the event to finish third in a field of eight teams. Host Slippery Rock claimed the invitational title with 45 points behind three top-10 runners. Gannon finished with 65 points to rank second at the event.
Junior
Sydney Urbine (Centerville, Pa./ Beth-Center) led the team and placed eighth overall on Saturday with a time of 24 minutes, 0.0 seconds while competing in the six-kilometer race. She posted a pace time of 6:26 while recording a team-best finish for the first time this fall.

Malia Anderson (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) and redshirt freshman
Madeline Curtis (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek) registered back-to-back finishes at the invitational. Anderson carded a time of 24:07 to finish in 10th place, while Curtis finished three seconds behind at 24:10 and 11th overall.
Sophomore twin sisters
Makaila Wade (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) and
Macayle Wade (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) also finished back-to-back on Saturday. Makaila posted a time of 24:55 to finish in 20th place and Macayle was one second back at 24:56 in 21st place.
Cal U is idle for nearly two weeks as it prepares for the PSAC Championships on Oct. 22 in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.
