BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 4) - The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team competed in both the singles and doubles flight of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships over the weekend.


Freshman Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) and sophomore Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) played in the singles bracket while at Bloomsburg. Del Mar Ojeda earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the opening round against junior Ally Frushour from Shepherd. She then dropped a 6-0, 6-2 match to fifth-seeded Adriana Gonzlaez Sanchez from Slippery Rock, who was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year in the spring.

Duran was dealt a 6-0, 6-0 loss in the opening round to top-seeded Karolin Kirchtag of IUP, who will be playing in the finals of the league event on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

In doubles, Duran and senior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) suffered an 8-2 loss to second-seeded Natasha Munday, a transfer from New Mexico, and Joanna Stralka of IUP in the opening round.

The Vulcans return to dual play over the weekend with a pair of home matches, beginning on Friday, Oct. 8, against Bloomsburg at 2 p.m.
