CALIFORNIA (Sept. 29) – California University of Pennsylvania athletics revealed the newly designed court floor of the Convocation Center, which is the primary facility of the men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball teams, on Tuesday afternoon.
Cal U worked with Tom Brown Performance Floors, which is also located in Washington County, for the project. The project was completed in mid-September after work started early due to the facility being closed through the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic. The project involved sanding the original floor down to bare wood with the company making repairs before painting the floor.

"Refinishing the Convocation Center floor brings a modern look to the facility with our new logos incorporated within," said Athletic Director
Dr. Karen Hjerpe. "We are excited to showcase the floor and look forward to getting back to play."
The court features the updated athletics logo at midcourt, plus 'Cal U' and 'Vulcans' wordmarks at multiple locations on the floor, along with the customized Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) logo inside the free-throw line. The floor also features the new college men's basketball three-point line, as well as the college women's basketball arc.
"As a NCAA Division II program, we've always felt very fortunate to have the opportunity to play in a first-class facility like the Convocation Center," said head women's basketball coach
Jess Strom. "The new floor design with our updated logos provide a renewed excitement for our upcoming basketball season. Our student-athletes can't wait to see the new court first-hand and get back out there to represent Cal U."
In addition to the new logos and lines, the floor will increase player safety on the floor. The project also included safer and sturdier covers for the built-in electrical boxes on the floor and safer volleyball post sleeves and caps.
With the new paint and clear-coat finish bonding the panels together, the floor at the Convocation Center is now essentially permanent. New covering, which is similar to carpet, will now be available at the facility to protect the surface from other events in the facility, such as graduations, fairs, concerts, etc.
The previous floor and design of the Convocation Center were the same since the grand opening of the facility with a basketball doubleheader on Dec. 3, 2011.
