LATROBE, Pa. (April 5) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team fell by a 9-0 count to Seton Hill on Thursday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 0-3 overall with all three matches against divisional opponents. Meanwhile, the Griffins move to 6-8 this season with a 3-2 mark in league play.
Seton Hill took to an early 3-0 lead in doubles play after collecting a forfeit win at the third position. At the first slot, junior
Elizabeth Wohar (California, Pa./California) and sophomore
Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorara) fell to Kaelyn Zak and Jenna Bailey by an 8-1 count. Junior
Emily Suckling (Cheltenham, Australia/Mentone Girls' Secondary College) and freshman
Emilee Leydig (Windber, Pa./Windber) suffered an 8-1 loss at second doubles to Madison DeBone and Cameron Beer.
In singles, Wohar fell 6-0, 6-1 to Zak at the first position and Gallagher dropped a 6-1, 6-0 match to DeBone at the second slot. Suckling was defeated by a 6-0, 6-0 count at the third position by Bailey, while Leydig suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Beer at fourth singles. Freshman
Alexa Uhlyar (Finleyville, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) was dealt a 6-1, 6-1 loss by Salazar at the fifth position. The Griffins also recorded a win by forfeit at sixth singles in the match.
The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, April 10, when they travel to face defending-PSAC Champion IUP at 3:30 p.m.
