UPPER ST. CLAIR, Pa. (April 16) – The Vulcans closed Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Monday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to Clarion at the Upper St. Clair Tennis Complex.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team falls to 0-6 overall with each match being against divisional opponents. The match was shifted to the indoor facility due to constant rain in the area. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles improve to 5-10 this season with a 1-5 mark in conference play.
Clarion won both of the doubles matches that were contested, as the it won at third position by forfeit. Junior
Elizabeth Wohar (California, Pa./California) and sophomore
Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorara) fell to Alivia Arnold and Maria Snyder at the first position by an 8-2 margin. Freshmen
Emilee Leydig (Windber, Pa./Windber) and
Alexa Uhlyar (Finleyville, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) suffered an 8-0 defeat at the second slot to Vinisha Reddy and Katie Benson on Monday.
In singles play, Wohar dropped a 6-1, 6-1 contest to Arnold at the first position and Gallagher fell to Snyder at the second slot by a 6-0, 6-0 count. Leydig suffered a 6-3, 6-0 loss at third singles and Uhlyar was downed by a 6-1, 6-0 margin at the fourth position by Benson.
The Vulcans return to action on Friday, April 20, when they close the season with a dual match versus Salem in West Virginia.
