SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 14) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team split singles play on Friday afternoon, but dropped a 5-4 contest at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 4-8 this season and close divisional play with a 2-4 mark. Meanwhile, The Rock improves to 9-11 overall and also finish with a 2-4 record in league action.
Slippery Rock took an initial 2-1 lead after the doubles session on Friday. Seniors Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) and Alyssa Savill (Holbrook, Australia/Billabong) earned an 8-3 victory at the first slot over Lacey Cohen and Amanda Bruscemi. The Vulcans and The Rock split the singles matches that allowed Slippery Rock to claim the match victory. Witherspoon suffered a 7-5, 6-0 loss at the first slot to Cohen, while Mikulis recorded her 10th win of the year with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kollah at the second position. Savill earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at third singles against Bruscemi and Olson collected a 6-3, 6-3 win over Welch at the fourth slot. Emily Suckling (Cheltenham, Australia/Mentone Girls' Secondary College) was dealt a 6-1, 6-0 loss at sixth singles by Woodman.
