CALIFORNIA (April 11) – In a rematch of the last six conference championships, the Vulcans suffered a 9-0 loss to No. 35 IUP at Roadman Park on Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team falls to 4-7 overall with a 2-3 mark in divisional play. Meanwhile, IUP improves to 14-5 this season behind a 5-1 record in league action.
The Crimson Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches on Tuesday. At the first slot, seniors Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) and Alyssa Savill (Holbrook, Australia/Billabong) suffered an 8-1 loss to the nationally-ranked tandem of Jarka Petercakova and Luis von Agris. Katie Olson (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills) were outlasted by a 9-8 count at second doubles by Raquel Gonzalez and Rachel Wood. Sophomores

Emily Suckling dropped an 8-0 match against Sophie Butland and Katya Minchenkova at the third position.
IUP completed the match victory by winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Witherspoon fell by a 6-1, 6-3 count to Petercakova at the first slot and Mikulis suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss at the second position to von Agris, who is the third-ranked singles player in the region. Savill dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match to Gonazalez at third singles, while Olson battled to 7-5, 7-5 defeat at the fourth position against Minchenkova. Wohar and Suckling both suffered 6-0, 6-0 losses at the fifth and sixth slots, respectively, to Wood and Butland.
Cal U closes out PSAC West play on Friday, April 14, when it travels to face Slippery Rock at 3 p.m.
