CLARION, Pa. (April 1) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 victory at Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 3-5 overall with a 1-2 mark in divisional action. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles fall to 5-6 this season with a 0-2 record in league play.
Cal U took a 2-1 lead after doubles play on Saturday, winning both of its matches without losing a game. At the first slot, seniors Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) and Alyssa Savill (Holbrook, Australia/Billabong) earned their team-leading seventh win of the year by collecting an 8-0 victory over Alivia Arnold and Maria Snyder. The Vulcans sealed the match victory by claiming four wins in the singles session. Witherspoon, who is the No. 12 singles player in the region, recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Arnold at the first slot and Mikulis tallied a 6-0, 6-4 win at the second position over Snyder. At third singles, Savill extended her winning streak to six matches with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Petrilla. Olson collected a 6-0, 6-0 win over Reddy at the fourth slot, while Wohar suffered a 6-0, 6-4 loss at the fifth position to Propst. Gallagher was outlasted at sixth singles by a 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 count to Benson.
