NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (March 21) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 5-4 loss to Westminster (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 2-2 this year. Meanwhile, the Titans improve to 14-3 overall after winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament during the fall campaign for the program's fourth league title in the last five years.
Westminster started the match with a 2-1 lead after the doubles session. At the first position, seniors Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) and Alyssa Savill (Holbrook, Australia/Billabong) claimed an 8-6 victory over Gabriele Eaborn and Sydney Sterner. Redshirt sophomore

Emily Suckling (Cheltenham, Australia/Mentone Girls' Secondary College) dropped an 8-2 contest to Christijana Vucenovic and Patricia Pivaronas.
The Vulcans and Titans split the singles flight on Tuesday with each match being decided in straight sets. Mikulis collected a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Eaborn at the first slot and Savill earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at the second position against Sterner. Olson registered a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Vucenovic at third singles, while Wohar fell by a 6-2, 6-1 count to Turiano at the fourth slot. Suckling, who was making her collegiate tennis debut after playing basketball the last two seasons, suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss at the fifth position to Homitz. Gallagher dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match to Marzouca at sixth singles.
Cal U returns to action on Friday, March 24, when it travels to face West Liberty at 3 p.m.
