INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 30) – The California University of Pennsylvania football team debuted at No. 10 in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region One rankings, which were released on Monday afternoon.
The NCAA regional rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Playoffs. Super Region One consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Mountain East Conference (MEC), Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The G-MAC was added to the region this season after a regional realignment shifted Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) to Super Region Two.
The top-six teams in the rankings remain unchanged from last week's initial rankings. IUP is the top-ranked team with a 9-0 overall record and remains one of three undefeated in Super Region One. Assumption of the NE-10 and Shepherd of the MEC sit second and third, respectively, both with 8-0 marks. Findlay leads the G-MAC with an 8-1 record, while Slippery Rock rounds out the top half of the rankings at 7-2 overall (6-2 in-region).
West Chester (7-2) remained in the sixth slot, while Shippensburg (8-1) jumped two positions to seventh following a road win over previously regionally-ranked Kutztown. Notre Dame (Ohio) (7-2) of the MEC remained eighth and LIU Post (N.Y.) (6-2, 5-2) climbed one spot to ninth. Cal U (7-2) closes out the top 10 in the regional rankings.
The final regional rankings will be announced on Nov. 12 with the top-seven teams earning a berth to the NCAA Playoffs. The top team in the final rankings will receive a first-round bye and hosting rights in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs.
Cal U closes out PSAC West play on Saturday, Nov. 4, when it travels to face Edinboro at 12 p.m. The Vulcans and Fighting Scots, along with The Rock, enter the weekend tied for second in the PSAC West standings.
