Box ScoreSOUTH PARK, Pa. (April 2) – The No. 18 California University of Pennsylvania tennis team extended its winning streak to 10 matches after claiming a 9-0 victory against Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Saturday evening at Glen Creek Tennis Club.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 11-2 on the year behind a 3-0 record in conference play. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-7 overall with an 0-3 mark in league action.
Cal U opened the match by sweeping doubles play without surrendering a point. The No. 12 tandem of sophomore
Lena Dimmer (Wallendorf-Pont, Luxembourg/Lycee Classique) and junior
Kiefer Shaw (Westmount, Quebec/Centennial) won their eighth-straight contest after recording an 8-0 victory over Maria Snyder and Sarah Robbins at first doubles, while the tandem of freshman
Holly Bennett (Kingston, United Kingdom/Sussex Downs-Lewes) and junior
Jasi Witherspoon (Macon, Ga./Howard) also tallied an 8-0 victory over Michelle Petrilla and Jessica Kennelly at second position. The junior duo of
Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) and
Alyssa Savill (Holbrook, Australia/Billabong) earned a win at third doubles via forfeit.
The Vulcans completed the match sweep after allowing only six points in the singles session. Shaw earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Snyder at the first slot, while Witherspoon tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win over Robbins at the second position. Mikulis extended her winning streak to 10 matches after posting a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Kennelly at third singles, while Bennett recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Petrilla to remain undefeated at the fourth slot this year.
