Box Score CALIFORNIA (May 4) – The top-seeded Vulcans earned a 5-0 victory over fifth-seeded Mercyhurst in the second round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament on Sunday morning at Roadman Park.
The win improves the No. 12 California University of Pennsylvania tennis team to 14-2 overall and extends its winning streak to 12 matches. The victory also advances the Vulcans into the Round of 16 for the eighth-consecutive year. Cal U will face Northeastern State (Okla.) from the Central Region in Altamonte Springs, Fla., on May 14 at 8 a.m. Meanwhile, the Lakers season ends at 13-6 overall after making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last five years.
The Vulcans seized control of the match after winning all three doubles matches. Senior

Lucie Rey (Geneva, Switzerland/Colombieres) defeated Mercyhurst's Caroline Brisol and Sarah Baich by an 8-1 count at first doubles. Junior
Ramona Czakon (Trier, Germany/Tampereen Lyseon Lukio) and freshman
Mariela Sarinana (Mexico City, Mexico/Miraflores) extended their win streak to 12 matches with an 8-1 victory against Courtney Thompson and Annie Baich at the second position, while freshman
Kiefer Shaw (Westmount, Quebec/Centennial) and junior
Jesse Burrell (Perth, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies' College) collected an 8-1 win over Katelyn Caniford and Annie Baich at the third slot.
Cal U ended the match quickly with wins at fifth and sixth singles. Sarinana dispatched Macarena Aguirre in straight sets at sixth singles by a 6-2, 6-1 margin at the sixth position, while freshman
Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Caniford at the fifth slot to clinch the victory for the Vulcans.
The Vulcans have advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament six times in the last seven years, including last year when it lost to No. 3 BYU-Hawaii.
