Chris Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) led a balanced scoring attack with a career-high 17 points on Tuesday night, as the California University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team posted an 83-49 victory against Penn State-Greater Allegheny at the Convocation Center.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 1-2 this year after dropping both games over the weekend at the season-opening Clarion Hotel Classic. Meanwhile, Greater Allegheny remains winless at 0-3 this season after finishing fourth last year in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Western Division.
Williams set a career high with 17 points after making seven-of-eight attempts, including a perfect three-of-three from beyond the arc. He also totaled three rebounds and two assists in the victory over Greater Allegheny. Williams has made a combined 14-of-22 attempts (63.6 percent) from the field through three games this year.
Junior guard
Tynell Fortune (Harlem, N.Y./Pocono Mountain West (Pa.)) finished with 16 points (12 first half), shooting seven-of-nine from the floor, and tied for the team high with four assists while playing 20 minutes. Sophomores
Josh Dombrosky (Shenandoah Heights, Pa./Shenandoah Valley) and
Jake Jacubec (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers) both scored nine points in the victory. Dombrosky added six rebounds and four blocks, while Jacubec collected five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Brandon Cunningham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos) posted eight points off the bench, while the duo of junior
Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) and freshman
Cordell Smith (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) both scored seven points on Tuesday. Murphy added a team-high nine rebounds (five offensive) while playing only 16 minutes.
The Vulcans opened the game with a 14-4 run before the Lions trimmed the deficit to 14-9 with 12:31 left in the first half. Cal U responded with a 19-5 rally over nearly eight minutes, capped by a fastbreak dunk by Williams with 4:46 remaining before the break. The Vulcans later scored the final 10 points of the first half to take a 47-22 lead into halftime.
Early in the second half, Cal U mounted a 13-1 rally over three-plus minute to take a 62-27 margin with 14:12 remaining in the game. The Vulcans maintained a lead of at least 30 points for the remainder of the game while playing primarily reserves in the second half.
Cal U finished the game shooting 46.2 percent (36-of-78) from the field and attempted only eight free-throw attempts in the victory. Greater Allegheny shot at 32.8 clip (19-of-58) from the floor while making only 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from beyond the arc. The Vulcans scored 35 points off turnovers in the victory, including 20 fastbreak points, and out-rebounded the Lions by a 45-39 margin.
Senior Aaron Byrd and junior Petrie Addison both recorded double-doubles in the loss. Addison finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while making just 4-of-20 of attempts, and Byrd posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Vulcans are idle for over a week before opening Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Nov. 20 against Gannon at the Hammermill Center with tip at 7:30 p.m.
