WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 5) – The Vulcans cruised to a 9-0 win over West Chester in a non-divisional match Saturday afternoon.
 
The win improves California University of Pennsylvania tennis team to 2-0 overall this season, while the Golden Rams fall to 1-3 on the year.
 
Senior Lucie Sipkova (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Pardubice Mozartova), fresh off her titles at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, picked up a pair of wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at first singles and teamed with junior Lucie Rey (Geneva, Switzerland/Colombieres) to collect an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Rey earned a singles win of her own with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at fourth singles.
 
Junior Ramona Czakon (Trier, Germany/Tampereen Lyseon Lukio) at No. 2 singles, sophomore Alexandra Borgenhoff (Alingsas, Sweden/Katrinelund) at No. 3 singles, freshman Veronika Mikulis (Otterburn Park, Quebec/Heritage Regional) at No. 5 singles and freshman Mariela Sarinana (Mexico City, Mexico/Miraflores) at No. 6 singles each earned a 6-0, 6-0 win against their respective opponent.
 
Along with Sipkova and Rey's victory at No. 1 doubles, the Vulcans swept doubles play behind an 8-1 win at the second spot by the team of Czakon and Borgenhoff and an 8-2 victory by Sarinana and teammate Florine Gross (Forbach, France / Lycée Jean Moulin).
 
Cal U will remain on the eastern side of Pennsylvania when it faces the New York Institute of Technology tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 6. The match, which will take place in Philadelphia, Pa., will begin at 11 a.m.
