Cal U edges Gannon at home, 3-2

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 25) – Led by a career-high 42 digs by sophomore Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim), the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team outlasted Gannon 3-2 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match Friday evening in the Convocation Center.
 
The win helps the Vulcans maintain first-place in the PSAC-West and improves them to 14-0 in league play, 21-4 overall. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights fall to 14-9 overall and 9-5 in PSAC games.
 
Rudy finished the evening with a staggering 42 digs and becomes the first Cal U player in over a decade to record 40 digs in a single match.
 
Four Vulcans finished with double-digit kills including a match-best 18 from senior Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield). Junior Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) and Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) each had 13 kills apiece, while sophomore Miranda Fouzie chipped in 10 in the win.
 
Freshman Kristen Scurpa (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) guided the offense with career-highs of 55 assists and 17 digs, while sophomore Taylor Melidona aided the defensive efforts with a career-high 17 digs.
 
Cal U returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 26 when it hosts Mercyhurst. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
