EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Jan. 5) – After being limited to 19 first-half points, the Vulcans opened the second half on a 13-0 run en route to recording a 65-50 victory at East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team improves to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in league action. The Vulcans also extended their road winning streak to five games. Meanwhile, the Warriors fall to 4-7 this season with a 3-4 mark in conference play.

Senior guard Stephanie Michael (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) scored a game-high 18 points on six-of-nine shooting from the floor, including four-of-five from beyond the arc. She also posted four rebounds and two assists in the victory. Michael leads the team in scoring this season at 13.2 points per game after totaling double-digits eight times.

The trio of junior Ryah Gadson (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) and sophomores Emma Mahady (Albury, Australia/Xavier) and Chelsea McKnight (Grove City, Ohio/Harvest Prep) each scored 11 points on Saturday. Mahady and McKnight both collected five steals and Mahady tied junior Kate Seebohm (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) for the team lead with six rebounds. Seebohm also tallied five assists off the bench against East Stroudsburg.

In the first half, neither team scored a point in the first two-plus minutes. Cal U later led 9-7 before East Stroudsburg scored five-straight points to take a 13-9 lead midway through the first half. The Vulcans countered with six-straight points to take a 15-13 lead on a jumper by Gadson with 6:48 left before halftime. East Stroudsburg eventually took a 20-19 lead at the break despite committing 18 turnovers in the first half. The 19 points by Cal U are its lowest first-half total of the season and the fewest since scoring 15 points in November 2011.

The Vulcans opened the second half on a 13-0 run over nearly four minutes to take a 32-20 lead. Cal U later stretched the lead to 40-24 on a three-pointer by McKnight before being held scoreless for three-plus minutes. The Warriors eventually cut the deficit to eight points, 43-35, before the Vulcans responded with an 11-2 run capped by a three-pointer from sophomore Irina Kukolj (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) with 4:16 remaining. East Stroudsburg later trimmed the deficit to 12 points, 60-48, before Gadson made five free-throws in the final 1:14 to seal the victory.

Cal U finished the game shooting 38.2 percent (21-off-55) from the field after making eight three-pointers in the second half. Meanwhile, East Stroudsburg made 38.3 percent (18-of-47) from the floor and just 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from beyond the arc. The Vulcans scored 24 points off turnovers after forcing the Warriors into a season-high 28 turnovers.

East Stroudsburg sophomore Jessica Martin led the team with 11 points and six rebounds, while junior Andrea Veres and freshman Michelle Boggs both scored 10 points in the loss.

The Vulcans continue PSAC Crossover play next weekend when they host Millersville on Friday, Jan. 11, at 5:30 p.m.
