ERIE, Pa. (Sept. 28) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play with a 3-1 win (21-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-23) over Gannon at the Hammermill Center on Friday night.
With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 14-2 overall with a 4-0 mark in league play. Cal U has won 10 of the 11 meetings against Gannon since it joined the league in 2008. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights fall to 12-3 this season and 4-1 in conference action.

Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) led the team with 14 kills on 35 attempts for a .343 hitting percentage, while classmate
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) added 12 kills on a .357 attack percentage. Fellow senior
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and junior
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) directed the offense with 22 and 18 assists, respectively, on Friday.

Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) registered a team-best 18 dig and Harris added 15 digs for her third kill/dig double-double of the season. Fromknecht posted nine digs and three service aces in the victory, while Freund and sophomore
Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) both tallied eight digs versus the Golden Knights.
Cal U continues its weekend PSAC West road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 29, when it faces Edinboro at 3 p.m.
