CALIFORNIA (Feb. 11) – Freshman guard
Tynell Fortune (Harlem, N.Y./Pocono Mountain West (Pa.)) tied his season high with 19 points on Saturday evening to help the California University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team earn a 77-52 victory over Lock Haven at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With their third-straight victory, the Vulcans improve to 14-10 overall and move into sole possession of fourth place in the divisional standings with an 11-7 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles remain winless this season at 0-21 overall and 0-17 in conference action.
Fortune finished with 19 points (15 first half) on Saturday after shooting 7-of-12 from the floor, including four-of-nine from beyond the arc. Over the last three games, he is averaging 12.7 points after making 13-of-23 from the field and 7-of-15 from three-point territory.

Steve Swiech (Greenock, Pa./Elizabeth-Forward) finished with 16 points, a game-high nine rebounds (five offensive) and two blocks. After missing the last two games, freshman
Jeremy Posey (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) added nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and a season-high five blocks off the bench. Senior

Four early points by senior
CJ Townes (Joppatowne, Md./Joppatowne) put Cal U up 6-2 at the 13:25-mark. Lock Haven went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to two at 9-7 with 10:30 to go before a lay-up by Swiech put the Vulcans up seven at 14-7 with 9:19 remaining. A driving lay-up by Fortune at the 6:42-mark put Cal U up 12 points, 20-8. The Vulcans held the Bald Eagles scoreless for nearly five minutes before a pair of free-throws made the score 28-10 with 3:24 left before the break. Lock Haven closed the half on a 10-5 run to cut the Cal U lead to 35-20 going into halftime.
The Vulcans opened the second half on a 13-0 run to take a 48-20 lead with 15:00 minutes remaining. Swiech answered a Lock Haven three-pointer with a dunk to make it 52-27 at the 12:47-mark. Sophomore Anthony Baker scored five-straight points for Lock Haven before a dunk by Posey gave Cal U the 58-35 lead with 8:14 remaining. Senior
John Williams (Baltimore, Md./Mervo) converted a pair of free-throws at the 3:14-mark to extend the Vulcans lead to 23 points, 69-46.
For the game, Cal U shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the floor and 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from beyond the arc. Conversely, Lock Haven made just 27.8 percent (15-of-54) from the field and 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from three-point territory. The Vulcans held a dominating 49-27 rebound advantage, registered eight blocks and scored 36 points from inside the paint.
In the loss, Baker scored a game-high 21 points off the bench for Lock Haven. Freshman guard Julian Bond posted 18 points of 5-of-10 shooting behind three treys.
