SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Nov. 2) – The Vulcans clinched a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament on Friday night, earning a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-10, 25-16) at Slippery Rock in league play.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 24-6 overall with a 12-4 mark in league play. The Vulcans remain in third place in the divisional standings, as they are two matches behind the league leader. Meanwhile, The Rock falls to 14-16 this season and 7-9 in conference action.
Senior
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) led the team with 15 kills on a .464 attack percentage and classmate
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) added nine kills in the victory. Fellow senior
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and sophomore
Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) each added seven kills with Franz registering a .500 attack percentage.
Junior
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) directed the offense with 23 assists and Fromknecht tallied 12 assists to mark her ninth double-double of the season. Junior
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) recorded a team-best 15 digs and added four service aces on Friday. Harris and Muzy collected 12 and nine digs, respectively.
The Vulcans continue their weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 3, when they travel to Clarion at 1 p.m.
