CALIFORNIA (Nov. 10) – In its final regular-season match, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team posted a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-16, 25-11) over Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 27-6 overall record with a 15-4 mark in league play. Cal U closed the regular season with four-straight wins and six wins in its last seven matches. Meanwhile, the Lakers fall to 24-9 this year with an 11-7 conference mark.

Senior Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) paced the Cal U attack with 10 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Classmate Kelly Fromknecht (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs while adding seven kills against the Lakers.

Junior Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) posted 15 assists and 10 digs and senior Ana Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Promove) added five kills and a career-high four aces. Senior Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) chipped in two kills, two assists, three digs and three blocks in the win.

The Vulcans begin PSAC Tournament play on Tuesday, Nov. 13, when they host Clarion in the Convocation Center at 7 p.m. Cal U swept the regular-season series with the Clarion, including a 3-2 victory at Hamer Hall.
