ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 19) – Despite a triple-double by senior Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and a career-high 30 digs by junior Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield), the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss (25-21, 25-21, 12-25, 17-25, 15-12) at Mercyhurst on Friday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 21-5 overall with a 9-3 mark in league action. Cal U is currently in third place in the PSAC West standings, trailing league-leading Gannon and Clarion by 1.0 game. Meanwhile, the Lakers extended their win streak to six matches, improving to 19-6 this season behind a 6-6 conference record.

Fromknecht set career highs with 17 kills and 22 digs, while collecting 29 assists for her fourth triple-double of the season. She finished with a .552 attack percentage and added two service aces and two blocks in the loss.

Delaney was one of five Vulcans to finish with double-digit digs, eclipsing her previous career high set earlier this month. Senior Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) posted 15 kills and 22 digs for her eighth double-double of the year, while sophomore Julia Muzy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Liceu Franco Brasileiro) totaled 11 kills, 19 digs, three aces and three blocks on Friday.

Junior Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) added 14 assists and 10 digs in the loss.
