CALIFORNIA (Jan. 18) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team extended its win streak over Slippery Rock on Wednesday evening with a 67-54 victory at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 10-5 overall and claim sole possession of fourth place in the league standings with a 7-4 mark. Cal U has now won all 20 meetings against Slippery Rock since the 2002-03 campaign. Meanwhile, The Rock falls to 5-10 this season behind a 2-9 mark in conference action.
Senior forward
Amy Johns (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) posted her fifth 20-point game of the season, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-15 attempts from the field and four-of-five from the free-throw line. She now ranks No. 21 in school history with 1,034 points, moving past
Dodi Chapman (1992-96) on the all-time scoring list on Wednesday night. Johns also posted nine rebounds and two assists in the win.

Danielle Luckett (Chicago, Ill./James Hubert Blake (Md.)) posted 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while freshman
Chelsea McKnight (Grove City, Ohio/Harvest Prep) added nine points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard

Elena Antonenko (Moscow, Russia/State University of Physical Education) registered a team-high 10 rebounds (five offensive) off the bench against Slippery Rock.
Trailing 14-13 midway through the first half, the Vulcans mounted a 12-2 run to take a 25-16 lead at the 8:50-mark. Slippery Rock countered with a 12-6 rally to cut the deficit to 31-28 with 1:54 left before the break. Cal U later took a 33-28 lead into halftime after Antonenko made a layup at the first-half buzzer.
After the teams traded baskets to start the second half, Cal U stretched its lead to 49-36 on a jumper by Luckett with 14:25 remaining. The Rock trimmed the deficit to 50-41 before the Vulcans scored six-straight points to expand their lead to 56-41 at the 8:56-mark. Cal U later stretched its lead to as many as 16 points, 60-44, following a basket by Luckett with 5:13 left in the game. The Vulcan maintained a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game.
The Vulcans finished the game shooting 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the field after shooting just 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, The Rock made 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the floor and 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from long range. Cal U held a 35-30 rebounding advantage over Slippery Rock and scored 29 pointers off turnovers (28).
Senior Danille Smith led three Rock players in double-figures with 14 points, while freshman D'Asia Chambers added 12 points off the bench. Junior guard Paris Thomas tied her season high with 11 assists in the loss.
The Vulcans continue divisional play on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they travel to face Lock Haven at 1 p.m.
