CALIFORNIA (Nov. 4) – The Vulcans clinched first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West standings on Friday night with a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-10, 25-23) over Slippery Rock at Hamer Hall.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 27-4 overall behind a 16-2 mark in league play. The Vulcans have won the PSAC West title four times in the last five years (2007-09, 2011) and have secured hosting rights for a quarterfinal match in the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock drops to 19-11 this season with an 8-10 record against PSAC opponents.

Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) led all players with 14 kills and added eight digs on Friday night. Classmate
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) finished with 10 kills on 17 attempts for a .588 hitting percentage and collected four service aces. Sophomore
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and senior
Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) directed the offensive attack with 21 and 12 assists, respectively, and Eshleman recorded her second double-double of the season after tallying 13 digs.
Senior
Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) registered a match-high 22 digs against Slippery Rock, while sophomore
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) finished with 14 digs. Freund and Harris combined for 17 digs in the sweep and junior
Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) posted a team-high three blocks.
Cal U closes out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 5, when its hosts Clarion for Senior Day at Hamer Hall, starting at 1 p.m.
