CLARION, Pa. (Oct. 14) – Despite a career-high 25 digs by senior
Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College), the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss (19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 11-15) to Clarion on Friday night at Tippin Gymnasium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 20-4 overall and drop into a tie with Edinboro for second place in the league standings with a 10-2 mark. Meanwhile, the defending-PSAC Champion Golden Eagles improve to 12-9 this season with an 8-4 record in divisional play.
McMullen was one of four players to post double-digit digs on Friday, leading the team with 25 digs. Sophomore
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) and junior
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) each finished with 18 digs, and junior
Ana Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Promove) collected 10 digs.
Harris also recorded her sixth double-double of the season by pacing the offense with 12 kills. Fellow juniors
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) each finished with 11 kills against the Golden Eagles. Franz and classmate
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) registered four blocks in the loss, and Fromknecht also posted 24 assists.
The Vulcans continue their weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 15, when they face Slippery Rock at 2 p.m.
