Addlery leads Islanders past L.A. Galaxy

CALIFORNIA (July 29) – Former California University of Pennsylvania standout Nicholas Addlery scored two goals for the Puerto Rico Islanders in a 4-1 upset win over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Tuesday in the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Champions' League.

Addlery, who played for the Vulcans from 1999-2002, increased the Islanders' lead to 2-0 in the 45th minute at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. He later added an insurance goal in the 81st minute before the Galaxy scored their only goal of the game in the 83rd minute.

The Galaxy feature the most prominent American player in forward Landon Donovan. Injured international star David Beckham also plays for Los Angeles, as does forward Edson Buddle, who like Donovan was a member of Team USA in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

A native of Jamaica, Addlery was inducted into the Cal U Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 after an All-American career. During his time with the Vulcans, he was a four-time All-PSAC First-Team selection and the PSAC Rookie of the Year in 1999. Addlery ranks among the top three players in program history with 52 career goals and 124 career points.

After his time with Cal U, he played professionally in his native Jamaica before signing with D.C. United of the MLS in 2007. The following year, he played for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL First Division before joining the Puerto Rico Islanders in 2009.
