Men's Golf competes at Findlay Invitational

FINDLAY, Ohio (April 17) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's golf team finished with a 90-over 666 (335-331) on Saturday at the two-round Findlay Spring Invitational, which was held at the par-72, 7,155-yard Red Hawk Run Golf Course.

The Vulcans finished in 11th place in the team standings with a 90-over 666 at the 12-team event. Grand Valley State won the invitational title by 10 strokes with a 40-over 616 (304-312), while Ferris State (50-over 626; 316-310) edged Saginaw Valley (56-over 632; 313-319) for second place after shooting the lowest team score in the final round.

Sophomore Paul Babashanian (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) and senior Bryan Bustamante (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) tied for the team lead and were 39th overall with a 21-over 165 at the Findlay Invitational. Bustamante carded a nine-over 81 in the first round before shooting a 12-over 84 on Saturday and Babashanian shaved five strokes off his Friday score of 13-over 85 by finishing with an eight-over 80 in the second round.

Freshman Justin Newbauer (Georgetown, Pa./South Side) carded a 23-over 167 (87-80) to tie for 46th in a field of 74 golfers. Sophomore Austin Stoddard (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) was two strokes back at 25-over 169 (82-87), while freshman Chad Dechowitz (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) posted a 36-over 180 (89-91) to place 67th overall.

Wayne State's Joe Juszczyk claimed medalist honors after defeating Joe McGeean of the host Oilers in the fourth playoff hole after both players finished the two rounds with an eight-over 152.

Cal U continues play this weekend when it competes at the Tu Kyle Ryman Memorial hosted by Tiffin (Ohio), starting tomorrow, Sunday, April 18.
