LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Feb. 15) – After helping lead the Vulcans to a pair of road wins last week, California University of Pennsylvania sophomore guard
Travon Vann (Frederick, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Player of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office.
In league wins at Clarion and Lock Haven, Vann averaged 18.5 points on 68.4 percent shooting (13-of-19) from the floor with 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game. He also made 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free-throw line.
The 6-4 guard opened the week by scoring a team-high 18 points in the first road win for the Vulcans since Jan. 10. He went five-of-nine from the field and 8-of-12 from the charity stripe and added seven rebounds, three assists and four steals against the Golden Eagles. A native of Maryland, Vann followed that with a career-high 19 points in an 83-73 win at Lock Haven on Saturday, hitting 8-of-10 field goals. He also collected eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in the fourth-straight win for Cal U.
For the season, Vann ranks fourth on the team with a career-best 8.6 points per game. He also averages 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals in 25 games (20 starts) this season.
Vann is the first Vulcan to earn PSAC West Player of the Week honors this season and the first since
Julian Logan received the honor on Dec. 15, 2008.
Cal U (16-9, 4-6) returns to action in the first of back-to-back home games on Wednesday, Feb. 18, when its hosts rival IUP at 8 p.m.
