INDIANA, Pa. (Oct. 26) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team clinched a berth in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep (28-26, 25-22, 25-23) over IUP at Memorial Field House in league play.
With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 18-10 overall with a 13-3 mark in conference action. Cal U will now appear in its sixth-straight PSAC Tournament after having won the last three conference titles. Meanwhile, IUP falls to 19-8 this season behind a 9-6 record in league play.
Sophomore
Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) led the Cal U attack with 10 kills, while classmates
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) added nine and eight kills, respectively. Freshman
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) engineered the offense with 23 assists and posted her first career double-double by adding 12 digs.
Senior libero
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) collected a team-high 22 digs, while junior
Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) added 10 digs.
The Vulcans will returns to action on Friday, Oct. 29, when they travel to Erie, Pa., to face Gannon at 7 p.m.
