CALIFORNIA (Oct. 22) - The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team snapped its two-game losing streak by defeating Slippery Rock, 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-17), in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Friday night at Hamer Hall.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 17-9 overall and 12-2 in conference play to remain 1.0-game back of first place in the PSAC West standings. Slippery Rock falls to 9-15 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC.
Sophomore
Chelsea Wilson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) led the Vulcans in kills, posting 11 in the contest while hitting at a .500 clip and also added four blocks (one solo). Junior
Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) and sophomores
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) each totaled seven kills to tie for second on the team.
Fromknecht also registered 20 assists, while freshman
Abbey Freund (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) finished with a team-high 22 assists. Senior
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) collected 17 digs to lead the Vulcans and junior
Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) tallied five service aces.
The Vulcans are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they host PSAC West-leading Clarion at 1 p.m. in Hamer Hall.
