CALIFORNIA (Oct. 2) – After losing the first set, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team rallied to a 3-1 win (23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-23) against Gannon at Hamer Hall on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 10-7 overall after winning eight of their last 10 matches. Cal U is now tied with Clarion for first place in the league standings with a 7-1 mark. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights have lost three straight to fall to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) led four Vulcans in double-figure kills after setting a career high with 16 kills. Junior
Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) added 13 kills and sophomore
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) finished with 10 kills and four blocks (two solo). Fellow sophomore
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) collected 10 kills and recorded six blocks (three solo) while hitting at a .471 clip.
Junior setter
Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) guided the offense with 52 assists, marking her third 50-plus assist match of the season.

Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) paced the defensive effort with a team-high 20 digs, while senior
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) and sophomore
Ana Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Promove) registered 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
Cal U returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 6, when it travels to face Wheeling Jesuit at 7 p.m. The Vulcans have defeated the Cardinals in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments, including the Atlantic Regional Championship match in 2008.
