ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 15) – The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team maintained its place in a three-way tie for first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West standings following a 3-1 win (25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16) at Mercyhurst on Friday night.
With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 16-7 overall and 11-1 mark in league play. Cal U also extended its win streak to nine matches. Meanwhile, the Lakers drop to 15-8 this season with a 7-5 record in conference action.

Katya Kopanarova (Sofia, Bulgaria/81 Victor Hugo) registered her second kill/dig double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 14 kills and 12 digs. Sophomores
Kelly Fromknecht (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and
Brandy Harris (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) each collected 12 kills, while classmate
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) tallied 10 kills and six blocks (one solo).

Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) anchored the defensive effort with 16 digs and junior
Sara McMullen (State College, Pa./State College) recorded 14 digs. Junior setter
Kortney Eshleman (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle) engineered the offense with 45 assists and added eight digs.
Cal U continues its weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 16, when it travels to face Edinboro at 3 p.m. The Fighting Scots and Vulcans are two of the three teams currently tied for first place in the divisional standings.
