ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Sept. 29) – Freshman
James Currie finished with a three-round total of 12-over 228 (75-73-80) to tie for 18th place on Tuesday, as the Vulcans placed 10th at the inaugural Flagler Invitational held on the par-72, 7,071-yard Palencia Golf Club.
The California University of Pennsylvania men's golf team finished with a team score of 71-over 935 (301-309-325). Valdosta State (Ga.) won the invitational title by 11 strokes with a 28-over 892 (293-296-303) over host Flagler (294-298-311-903).
Currie finished one stroke ahead of senior
Bryan Bustamante (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem), who finished tied for 21st overall at 13-over 229 (73-77-79). Sophomore
Paul Babashanian (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) carded a three-round 17-over 233 (75-79-79), while classmate
Austin Stoddard (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) shot a 31-over 247 (78-80-89).
Freshman
Justin Newbauer rounded out the Cal U golfers at the event, finishing with a 33-over 249 (78-84-87).
Senior Chelsey Gunn of Valdosta State earned medalist honors by four strokes with a three-over 219 (73-71-69).
The Vulcans return to action on Sunday, Oct. 4, when they host a two-day invitational at Cedarbrook Golf Course in nearby Belle Vernon, Pa.
