CALIFORNIA (Sept. 25) – After dropping the first set, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team rallied to a 3-1 victory (25-27, 25-12, 25-13, 25-12) against Gannon on Friday night at Hamer Hall in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
The Vulcans, who have won 15-straight home matches dating back to last year, improve to 14-4 overall and 5-0 in league play, while the Golden Knights fall to 11-3 and 3-1 in conference action. Cal U also extended its current overall win streak to seven matches and its conference win streak to 24 matches.
Senior outside hitter
Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) tied her season high with 21 kills and posted her 11th kill/dig double-double as she added 17 digs against the Golden Knights. Classmate
Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) added 13kills on .632 hitting while sophomore
Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) added nine kills.
Junior libero
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) and Nist each led the defensive effort with 17 digs. Seniors
Ashley Moore (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and
Renata da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) finished with 13 and eight digs, respectively. da Silva also posted 39 assists while freshman
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) recorded four blocks (one solo).
The Vulcans conclude their season-long seven-game homestand tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 26, when they host Edinboro at 11 a.m.
