Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Aug. 31) – Senior Justin Taucher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute on Monday to lead the Vulcans to a 3-2 non-conference road victory over Charleston (W.Va.).

The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 3-0 this season – all wins over West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) members. Meanwhile, Charleston falls to 3-1 this year.

Taucher, who scored the game-winning goal in last year's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship game, tallied the eventual game-winning goal against the Golden Eagles in the 68th minute off a feed from senior forward Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton).

Cal U opened the game with a goal by senior Nick Helbig (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) in the second minute off assists from Luecke and junior Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg). The Golden Eagles tied the game in the next minute before Luecke, who was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, scored in the 20th minute off an assist from junior Felipe Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Coleaio Objetivo).

Junior goalkeeper Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) earned his second win of the season after registering five saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 5, when they open PSAC West play with a road game against Slippery Rock. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start. Cal U swept the three meetings with Slippery Rock last season, including a 3-1 victory in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament.
