BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (April 24) – After not playing a match in over a week, the No. 12 California University of Pennsylvania tennis team cruised to a 5-0 victory against Kutztown University on Friday in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Team Championships, hosted by Bloomsburg University.
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 19-2 overall and will now face the host Huskies in the finals of the PSAC Team Championships tomorrow, Saturday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m. Cal U has won the last two team titles to snap a three-year run by Bloomsburg (2004-06), who has won league-best 10 titles. The Huskies beat No. 29 Slippery Rock University in the other semifinal match on Friday, 5-3.
For the eighth-straight match, Cal U swept doubles play to take a 3-0 advantage. Graduate student

Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania/Technical) dealt Kutztown's Rohini Das and Sabrina Arnaud an 8-0 defeat at first doubles. Freshman
Axelle Fernandez (Nice, France/Institut Familial) and sophomore
Nina Kowalski (Hofheim, Germany/Man Taunus) earned an 8-2 victory over Barbara Joerns and Nicole Devine at the second position, while freshman
Anastassiya Zherdeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and sophomore
Galina Vishnikina (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Sport Military) closed out the sweep with an 8-0 win against the Huskies' Tess Wright and Shir Suez.
The Vulcans closed out their victory with wins by both Zherdeva and sophomore
Laurie Navarro (Eysus, France/Jules Supervielle) at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Zherdeva earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Wright, while Navarro also claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Suez.
Kutztown, who posted a 5-3 quarterfinal win over East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday, closed the season with an 11-5 overall record.
