CALIFORNIA (Feb. 28) – The Vulcans clinched their 23rd-straight non-losing season on Saturday by posting a 70-62 victory over Mercyhurst College in the final game of the season for both teams at Hamer Hall in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
The California University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team finished the season with a 13-13 overall record and a 6-8 mark in league play for fifth place in the league standings. The Vulcans have posted 23-consecutive seasons with a record of .500 or better since the team finished 7-19 during the 1985-86 campaign. In its first year with the league, Mercyhurst posted a 16-11 record with a 4-10 mark in divisional action.

Kenny Johnson (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls/Ferrum (Va.)/CCBC) made a pair of free-throws, 68-60, with 15 seconds left to seal the victory.

Jesse Brooks (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding/Maryland Eastern Shore) both scored eight points against Mercyhurst. Brooks collected a team-high seven assists, while Johnson register three steals.
Cal U, who led by as many 12 points (55-43) in the second half, committed a season-low six turnovers and held a narrow 44-43 advantage on the glass. The Vulcans forced 15 Laker turnovers and scored 21 points off the turnovers.
For the game, Cal U shot 34.4 percent (21-of-61) from the floor and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from beyond the arc. In comparison, Mercyhurst made 38.3 percent (23-of-60) of its shots with a .321 three-point percentage (9-of-28).
Junior guard Nnamdi Nnadilli led the Lakers with 16 points on three-pointers, while junior forward Jordan Armstrong finished with 14 points and five rebounds.
