CALIFORNIA (Nov. 3) – The Vulcans extended their home winning streak to 26-straight matches on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-14, 25-13) against IUP in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team improves to 28-5 overall and 18-0 in league action. Meanwhile, IUP falls to 17-15 this season with a 9-9 mark in conference play.
Senior setter
Renata da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) led four Vulcans in double-figure digs, finishing with 18 digs against the Crimson Hawks on Senior Night. Junior libero
Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) recorded 15 digs, while seniors
Ashley Moore (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and
Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) each posted 12 digs.
Nist was one of four Cal U players to post at least seven kills in the win. Nist collected nine kills, while classmate
Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) registered eight kills on .533 hitting. Moore and freshman
Meghan Franz (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) both finished with seven kills while Franz added five blocks.
The Vulcans conclude their regular season with a two-game road trip, beginning on Friday, Nov. 6, at Ashland.
