Cal U extends win streak to 10 matches, 3-0

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Oct. 3) – Behind a match-high 16 kills by senior outside hitter Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood), the Vulcans earned a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-15, 25-20) at Slippery Rock on Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With its 10th-straight victory, the California University of Pennsylvania improves to 17-4 overall this year with a perfect 8-0 mark in divisional action. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock falls to 6-14 overall and 2-6 in league play.

Nist collected 16 kills on 25 attempts for a .600 attack percentage. Senior Ashley Moore (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) finished with seven kills, while sophomore Bridge Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) collected five kills on seven attempts.

Defensively, Moore led the team with 12 digs and Nist added nine digs. Senior All-American setter Renata da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) directed the offense with 43 assists and also had five digs.

Cal U returns to action in road PSAC Crossover play, beginning with a match at Kutztown on Friday, Oct. 9. The Vulcans then travel to West Chester on Saturday, Oct. 10, to face the Golden Rams and Cheyney.
