Vulcans fall to No. 24 Indianapolis, 3-0

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 26) – The No. 13 Vulcans suffered their first loss of the season in the first match of the California University of Pennsylvania Tournament at Hamer Hall on Friday, falling 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 25-18, 25-22) to No. 24 University of Indianapolis.

With the loss, Cal U drops to 16-1 overall, while the Greyhounds move to 13-3.

Vulcans' junior middle hitter Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) headlined the Cal U offensive attack, hammering out a team-high 15 kills on .351 hitting percentage with five digs and four blocks. Outside hitter Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) registered 10 kills and 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.

Junior libero Marta Hodge (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) headlined the Cal U defense with a season-high 33 digs and classmate Renata Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) directed the offense with 36 assists. Senior Mallory DeMarco (Cranberry, Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and sophomore Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) each posted double-digit dig totals with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Vulcans continues play in their two-day, six-team host tournament on Friday, Sept. 26, against Shippensburg University with a 7:30 p.m. match.
