Volleyball posts 3-0 victory at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. (Sept. 23) – The No. 13 California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team continued its impressive play in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Tuesday night, blanking divisional-newcomer Gannon University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-13).

With the victory, the Vulcans move to 16-0 overall and 5-0 in PSAC play after winning all 15 sets in their five divisional matches. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights fall to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in divisional action.

Junior outside hitter Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) led Cal U with her eighth kill-dig double-double of the season, leading the team with 14 kills and 10 digs. Middle hitter Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt), who was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, finished with 10 kills on 13 attempts for a remarkable .769 attack percentage. Junior Ashley Moore (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) also added nine kills for the Vulcans.

Junior All-American setter Renata Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) finished with 38 assists, while junior Marta Hodge (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) and sophomore Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) each added seven digs.

The Vulcans return to action on Friday, Sept. 26, with matches against the University of Indianapolis and Shippensburg University in the first day of a two-day tournament hosted by Cal U at Hamer Hall.
