Jeremy Blymiller (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and junior
Mike Luecke (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) each scored twice to lead the Vulcans past the University of Charleston (W.Va.), 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Roadman Park.
The seven-goal output by the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team (3-1-2) is the highest since a 7-0 victory against Shippensburg during the 2001 season.
The Cal U offensive attack started in the fifth minute when Blymiller scored off assists from Luecke and
Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg). Luecke increased the lead to 2-0 less than four minutes later with an assist from sophomore
Seth Menart (Mt. Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant).
Senior
Brian Braithwaite (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) added his first goal of the season at the 22:31-mark off a feed from Luecke. The Vulcans scored their fourth goal of the opening period in the 35th minute when Blymiller scored his second goal of the game and fourth of the season with an assist to
Shakir McCoy (Huber Heights, Ohio/Tecumseh/Wayne).
The Vulcans carried their offensive output into the second half, scoring three goals against the Golden Eagles in the final 45 minutes. Crider tallied his second goal of the season in the 51st minute off a feed from Blymiller.
Luecke scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 81:33-mark with an assist to sophomore
Sede Wilson (Monrovia, Liberia/Gahanna (Ohio)). The two goals by Luecke moves the former Chambersburg standout into sixth place in school history with 26 career goals, tying Lou Douglas (1999-01).
The Vulcans tallied their final goal of the game in the 89th minute when junior
Nick Helbig (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored on a free kick.
Sophomores
Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Charlie Dagnal (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) split the shutout, each playing 45 minutes in net and making a combined three saves.
Cal U dominated the pace of the game, out-shooting Charleston by a 21-6 margin.
The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when travel to Vienna, W.Va., to face Ohio Valley University for a 4 p.m. contest.
The Dunlevy Group was in attendance on Saturday at Roadman Park to watch the Vulcans post a 7-0 victory over Charleston (W.Va.). The group was and remains instrumental in promoting soccer of all levels in the Mon-Valley, including assisting in the founding of the Cal U soccer programs. Of note, head coach Dennis Laskey is a native of Dunlevy, Pa.
