INDIANA (Sept. 12) – Junior outside hitter Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) reached a personal milestone and the No. 19 California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 (25-12, 23-25, 25-17, 25-13) victory against West Virginia State University on Friday in the PSAC/WVIAC Crossover.

Nist became just the seventh player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills in the 3-1 victory against West Virginia State University. The Rockwood graduate is the first Vulcan player to reach the 1,000-kill plateau since Amanda Evans (1,151) accomplished the feat in 2006. Nist recorded a career-best 500 kills, which ranks fifth in school history, during last season's memorable run to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Junior Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) led the Vulcans' offensive attack with 20 kills on 33 attempts for an impressive .576 attack percentage, while Nist added 16 kills and 12 digs. Junior setter Renata Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) engineered the offense with 41 assists and libero Marta Hodge (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) led the team with 15 digs.

Cal U (11-0) continues the PSAC/WVIAC Crossover tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 13, against Bluefield State College and Davis & Elkins College.
