CALIFORNIA (Oct. 14) – The No. 18 Vulcans earned their 15th shutout victory of the season after claiming a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) against Slippery Rock University at Hamer Hall on Tuesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
The California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team moves to 26-1 overall and 8-0 in divisional play, while Slippery Rock drops to 19-8 overall and 3-5 in league action.
Over parts of the last two seasons, the Vulcans have won 60 of their last 62 matches. Cal U has also claimed 19-straight PSAC victories dating back to the 2006 season.
Junior
Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) led the Vulcans' offensive attack with 16 kills on 31 total attacks. Classmate
Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) added 11 kills on .421 hitting, while senior middle hitter
Thais Franca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Padre Manoel De Paiva) collected seven kills.
A total of seven different Cal U players collected five-plus digs, paced by 20 digs from junior libero

Julie Paronish (Hastings, Pa./Northern Cambria) each finished with eight digs. Junior setter
Renata Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) directed the offense with 32 assists and added seven digs, four blocks and three kills.
The Vulcans return to action on Friday, Oct. 17, at a PSAC/West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Crossover Invitational hosted by Wheeling Jesuit University. Cal U opens play at the two-day event with matches against West Virginia Wesleyan University and host Wheeling Jesuit on Friday.
