Nist leads No. 17 Vulcans to sweep, 3-0

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 10) – Junior outside hitter Joanna Nist (Rockwood, Pa./Rockwood) posted a kill/dig double-double to lead the No. 17 California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep against Glenville State University at Hamer Hall on Friday.

The Vulcans' 25-15, 25-19, 25-20 victory improved Cal U to 25-1 on the year, while the Pioneers fall to 10-11 overall.

Nist paced the Vulcans' offensive attack with 13 kills, while four other Cal U players collected four or more kills. The 5-10 outside hitter also recorded 15 digs for her 11th double-double of the season, while adding two service aces and two blocks.

Junior libero Marta Hodge (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) led the team with 19 digs, while junior All-American setter Renata Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Ateneu) added eight digs and 31 assists.

Silva, along with middle hitters Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) and Bridget Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), all registered three blocks in the sweep.

The Vulcans return to divisional play on Tuesday, Oct. 14, when they host Slippery University for a 7 p.m. match at Hamer Hall.
