LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 8) – Following a standout performance in his debut with the program, California (PA) senior transfer quarterback
Eric Gibson, Jr. was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Offensive Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Gibson accounted for five touchdowns (one rushing) on Thursday, as the Vulcans opened the season with a 49-24 victory against Charleston (WV) in non-conference play. He finished with 213 passing yards and four touchdowns on 17-of-25 attempts with one interception. Gibson added 30 rushing yards and one touchdown on eight carries. The Virginia native completed passes to seven different receivers and helped Cal build a 42-24 halftime lead while playing through a pair of severe weather delays that spanned more than three hours.
A 6-foot-1 senior, Gibson was the starting quarterback last season at Northern Colorado, an NCAA FCS program. He finished with more than 2,500 passing yards while completing 65 percent of his attempts. Gibson also previously spent time at LSU and Monterey Peninsula (Calif.) during his college career.
The Vulcans return to action with their first road game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Millersville with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
