LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 19) – After his performance in the double-overtime win over the weekend, California (PA) senior linebacker
Wilfredo Diaz was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Diaz played a pivotal role in regulation and overtime, as the Vulcans earned a 26-20 double-overtime victory at Clarion on Saturday. He registered 11 tackles (seven solo), two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries against the Golden Eagles. In the fourth quarter with the score tied, Diaz recovered fumbles on back-to-back drives by Clarion with the first coming at the Cal 29-yard line with about four minutes left to play. The Florida native then forced a fumble on the second play of double overtime that was recovered by a teammate to help setup the walk-off score by the Vulcans on the ensuing possession.
A 5-foot-11 senior, Diaz leads the league and ranks No. 12 in the country with 71 stops (39 solo). He also is tied for second on the team with 5.0 TFL and is one of four players with at least 2.0 sacks this season. Diaz has been credited with 323 tackles (159 solo) in his career after previously playing at Edinboro (2022-24) and Minot State (ND) (2025).
Diaz received the weekly league honor for the fourth time in his career, as he previously earned the accolade three time in 2024 while with the Fighting Scots.
Cal returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, when it faces IUP on Homecoming at Adamson Stadium with kickoff at 5 p.m.
