WHEELING, W.Va. (Sept. 5) – The California (PA) volleyball team won the opening two sets on Saturday afternoon and withstood a rally to claim a 3-2 victory (25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 15-8) over Ursuline (Ohio) at the Wheeling Hall of Fame/Alumni Tournament.
NOTES
• California (1-5) played a pair of five-set matches at the weekend event.
• Sophomore
Olivia Weiseman recorded her third career double-double with 14 kills, 16 assists and 17 digs against the Arrows, who are members of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).
• Senior
Lindsey Scammell set a career high in kills for the second-straight match, as she finished with 17 kills on a stunning .548 hitting percentage.
• Freshman
Madelyn Salisbury posted 10 kills, while sophomore
Alayna Jones added eight kills.
• Freshman transfer
Molly Smiddy led the team with 31 assists and fellow freshman transfer
Gracen Hartman tallied 11 assists.
• Junior transfer
Tori Newton paced the defensive effort with 36 digs, eclipsing the career high she set last night.
• Freshman
Alece Evanto also reached double-digits on Saturday with 14 digs.

• The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when they face Point Park in their home opener at the Convocation Center, beginning at 6 p.m.
