Vulcans suffer setback at Walsh

Weiseman records kill/dig double-double; Olenick finishes with 10 points behind four aces

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (Sept. 29) – Playing in Ohio for the first time since the season-opening weekend, the Vulcans suffered a 3-1 loss (25-17, 20-25, 25-15, 25-18) at Walsh (OH) on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

NOTES
• California (7-9) and Walsh have met four times over the past three seasons with the Cavaliers winning three times.
• Walsh is one of three teams (Ashland, Ohio Dominican) in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with an undefeated divisional record this fall.
• Cal has already faced Ashland and will play Ohio Dominican next week.
• Sophomore Olivia Weiseman recorded her fourth kill/dig double-double of the year after leading the team with both 10 kills and 17 digs.
• Junior Lindsey Scammell added eight kills and two blocks, while freshman Madelyn Salisbury finished with seven kills.
• Freshman Elise Olenick was credited with six kills and four service aces to finish with a season-high 10 points.
• Freshman Molly Smiddy tallied 18 assists and seven digs, while classmate Gracen Hartman collected 11 assists.
• Junior Tori Newton finished with 16 digs versus the Cavaliers.

NEXT
• The Vulcans return to action this weekend, starting with a road match against IUP on Friday, Oct. 2, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at 6 p.m.
• The Crimson Hawks have 10-straight matches and are one of two remaining unbeaten teams in PSAC West play this year.
